This week with Phil, Gerry Brisson [Gleaners Community Food Bank], Joe Presgrove [Hunters Feeding Michigan Program], and Garrett Zuver [Food Bank Council of Michigan], as they delve into their strong partnership.

The Food Bank Council of Michigan and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources have teamed up to turn a challenge — our state’s massive deer population — into a solution that benefits everyone.

Hunters across Michigan can donate their legally harvested deer to participating processors. Those deer are turned into HIGH-QUALITY, LEAN VENISON, and our food bank network gets it to families across all 83 counties.

1 donated deer can provide roughly 160 servings of healthy protein.

And this year alone, tens of thousands of lbs. of venison have already been distributed to neighbors in need.

This partnership hits big wins:

- Farmers get relief from crop damage caused by an overgrown deer herd.

- Families get access to nutritious, lean protein they can’t always afford.

- And hunters get to know their harvest makes a difference beyond the woods.
