Michigan Hunger Study 2024

The Michigan Hunger Study, led by nationally recognized researchers from Michigan State University (MSU), is the first statewide research on food assistance serving people through the Food Bank Council of Michigan (FBCM) member network since 2014. Built on statistical integrity, academic excellence, and statewide reach, it provides unparalleled insight into the profile of people experiencing food insecurity served through the FBCM member network in 2024.

In 2024, the MSU team surveyed nearly 2,500 people at 53 partner locations and agencies within the FBCM member network across the state. The results were weighted, adjusting the influence of each response to accurately reflect Michigan’s population.

More than a collection of data points, the Michigan Hunger Study is an academically grounded tool intended to inform policy, guide equity-focused investments, and elevate the voices of people experiencing food insecurity across the state.
