SNAP Outreach

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the program formerly known as Food Stamps, is the nation’s largest federal nutrition program, helping more than 40 million Americans afford food. SNAP is also known in Michigan as the Food Assistance Program.

Those who qualify for SNAP receive an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card, also known as the Bridge Card in Michigan, that is loaded with benefits each month that can be used to purchase groceries at authorized stores that sell food, farmers markets, and participating online retailers.

At FBCM, we work alongside the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and our partner food banks to ensure that all eligible individuals and families in Michigan have access to these benefits through promoting awareness, decreasing stigmas, and removing barriers.
