Sheally (Shea) Vowels

Shea Vowels serves as a SNAP Helpline Specialist at FBCM. In this role, she is responsible for assisting clients that are seeking to connect to resources and services through our statewide helpline, to support FBCM’s efforts to increase access to food assistance in Michigan.

Her passion to serve started at an early age. Her father, who is a retired sixth grade teacher from a rural community, cooked and served a free Thanksgiving meal to all of the sixth graders and their families for several years while she was growing up. This instilled the importance of giving back to the community, especially to those in need. Vowels continued this passion by becoming a teacher herself and saw firsthand the food insecurity that her elementary students experienced. She worked to address the need she saw in schools for almost 20 years by organizing several nutrition educational opportunities for the school. Vowels is passionate about serving the community and making as many people feel secure in their ability to provide food for their families.
