Ken Estelle

Kenneth R. (Ken) Estelle was appointed as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Feeding America West Michigan in April 2011.  He leads this organization that provides nearly 30 million pounds of food annually to 700 charitable agencies in 40 Michigan counties, reaching nearly 400,000 people.  The Feeding America West Michigan Food Bank was founded in 1981 as Gleaners of West Michigan, and was the first in the country to develop a mobile pantry program that provides fresh produce and other perishable products directly to communities.

Prior to joining Feeding America, Estelle spent 32 years in the aerospace and defense industry.  From 1979 to 1998 he held a number of technical and management positions with Honeywell Aerospace in Phoenix, AZ.  In 1998 their family moved back to Grand Rapids, MI where Estelle held international marketing and executive management positions for Smiths Aerospace (now GE Aviation).  In 2007 he accepted a senior executive position with Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, IA, managing one of that company’s largest business units.

Through their time in Grand Rapids, MI, and Cedar Rapids, IA, Estelle, and his wife, Kathy, were active anti-hunger advocates and community volunteers.  They worked with mobile food pantries in Michigan, and with flood cleanup and restoration in Iowa.  In 2011, Estelle made the decision to leave aerospace and focus on hunger relief full-time.

He currently serves on the board of his local church, the board of directors of the Food Bank Council of Michigan, the board of directors for the Kent County Emergency Food and Shelter Program, the Holland Food Club Advisory Committee, the Feeding America New Contract Task Force, and is a member of the Grand Rapids Rotary club.  Estelle holds degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.  He and his wife are natives of West Michigan.   They currently live near Allegan, MI and have three married children and 10 grandchildren.
