What is the Michigan Harvest Gathering?
The Michigan Harvest Gathering (MHG) is an annual statewide campaign that raises food and funds for Michigan’s emergency food response. Since 1991, the Attorney General Bill Schuette and his wife, Cynthia Schuette, have partnered with the Food Bank Council of Michigan to help strengthen the capacity of our state’s emergency food response. In its first 29 years, the MHG Campaign raised over 81 million meals to help those in need!
Virtual Kickoff is Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 10 a.m. via Facebook Live on Food Bank Council of Michigan’s Facebook page..
Virtual Celebratory Closing is November 16.
- Pre COVID-19, the food bank network was distributing 2.6 million lbs of food/week.
- During COVID-19, the network has averaged 4.5 million lbs of food/week.
- And now, heading into the fall and winter, we are expecting a 15% increase – that equates to approximately 667,000 lbs. of MORE food per week.
In Michigan, 16% of households are struggling to put food on the table and 21% of children do not know where their next meal will come from. Find out more about your county.
