President, Food Bank of Eastern Michigan
Bill Kerr was born and raised in Flint.
He attended Michigan
and graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in Administration. Prior to coming to the Food Bank, Bill
directed the American Lung Association in Genesee
County and later Philadelphia.
He was successful in the private sector as a grocery company executive
and owner of several Hardee’s restaurants.
As President of the Food Bank of Eastern
Michigan, Bill oversees all staff and operations. His leadership is put into action according
to the Four-Way
Test of professional standards and Bill’s strives to build strong friendships
to bring the community closer to the Food Bank.
Under his direction the Food Bank has undergone massive expansion to
become one of the leading non-profit organizations in the area and one of the top
food banks as well. In 2002, the Food
Bank of Eastern Michigan was awarded with Excellence in Food Banking by Feeding
America and named the number one food bank in the nation.
Bill is on the Board of Directors for the Food Bank Council
of Michigan and is active in the hunger movement on a national level with Feeding
America, the Nation’s Food Bank Network.
Bill has served as Chairman for the National Hunger Awareness Day
committee to organized local events across America to increase knowledge about
hunger. Bill was also instrumental in
planning an Interfaith Service at the National Cathedral in 2005 and a Hunger
Symposium at the Washington DC Press Club in 2006 in honor of Hunger Awareness
Bill has been an active member of his local community, serving
on a number of committees and task forces.
He has been a member of the Rotary Club of Flint since January 1997 and
is currently on the Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce Strategic Board. He is also Past President of the Board of
Advisors of AIESEC – Michigan, a University of Michigan international student’s work
initiative and past chair of the Baden Powel District of the Tall Pine Council
of the Boy Scouts of America.
Bill is married to Jennifer Sposito who is a buyer at Magna
Corp and has an MBA from University of Michigan, creating a house divided -
Green and Blue. Bill has three
daughters; Krisitie, a graduate of Central Michigan University, Andrea a
graduate of University of Michigan and Kelsey, who is attending University of
