Company & Conversation is a series of dialogues
introduced by the Food Bank Council of Michigan. These dialogues are intended to lay out the
canvas for fluid discussions that combine the topics of food and social justice,
while incorporating an element of artistic expression. Each Company &
Conversation event will take place at the Food Bank Council of Michigan from
5pm – 7pm and light hors d’oeuvres are provided. Dates and topics are as

LANGUAGE OF FOOD.
How are language and food
related? Is language used to manipulate
our ideas of food and hunger? What does
food justice sound like when described through the written word?
- May 28th, 2013 – THE FOOD DEATH
Sometimes food justice is so
desperate, it is fatal. In what ways are
we being impacted by an unhealthy food system and what policies actively
- July 30th, 2013 – THIS LAND IS
YOUR LAND, THIS LAND IS MY LAND?
This conversation will
explore the relationship between food, social justice and land use. What are the new, relevant land use
topics? Who is being impacted by land
- September 24th, 2013 – WHAT COLOR
IS YOUR FOOD?
Social inequality is at the
heart of food justice in America. Let’s explore
the history, nature, and product of this inequality to begin alleviating its
grip on our food system.
- December 17th, 2013 – YOU EAT WHAT
Most of us have choices in
what we consume. What do our choices say
about us? How do we identify ourselves
in the food system and what role do we play in food justice?
